The ICAA Florida Chapter is pleased to announce the CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean, Volume I of the chapter’s new print publication series Classical Florida.
Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2021.
Publication Description Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean will document and celebrate Florida’s and the Caribbean’s most accomplished classically-oriented work in architecture, urban planning, interior design, landscape architecture, craftsmanship and related arts and disciplines. The publication will be an attractive, large-format, rigorously documented and widely distributed overview that includes photography, plans, drawings and texts related to each featured project. Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean, will also include a critical appraisal and an historical overview of classical work in Florida and the Greater Caribbean.
Eligibility Participation in Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean is open to all ICAA members who have completed projects in Florida and the Greater Caribbean (individuals and firms may join the Florida Chapter of the ICAA at any time by visiting https://www.classicist.org/membership).
Firms and individuals may submit as many as three of their most outstanding and representative projects for consideration by the ICAA FL chapter’s Editorial Board. The Editorial Board will review all submissions and after a thorough selection process will determine which will be featured in the publication. If necessary, the Editorial Board will work with submitting firms and individuals in securing any alternate or additional materials.
Submissions will be accompanied by a $3,000 submission fee. Should the Editorial Board not select a firm’s submission for publication, the submission fee (less $300) will be refunded. The ICAA FL will not accept any advertising or sponsor pages to finance this publication. The firm or individual making a submission must have the approval of all parties with legal ownership of the project, the client, architect and or designer of record, or developer. Those making the submission must have permission to use all photography and printed material contained within the submission. The ICAA FL and ICAA reserve the right to use all materials contained within the submission on their website, in print, and digital media for promotional purposes.
Schedule and Procedure All materials must be submitted by 6 pm (ET) on June 30, 2021.
Firms or individuals can submit up to three separate projects for consideration in Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean, as long as each project meets the stated requirements (see Eligibility). However, please note that each submission must include its own Online Entry Form, Project Presentation and other related materials (see Submission Instructions.)
All submitted projects will be reviewed and evaluated by the ICAA FL Editorial Board. After the selection process is completed, the publication editor will contact participants individually to finalize the design and editing process of the materials to be published.
Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean is scheduled to be completed and distributed in Spring 2022.
Participating firms and individuals will receive 5 complimentary copies of the publication and will have the option of purchasing further copies at a discounted rate.
The ICAA FL will fully and impartially evaluate all material from all submitting firms and individuals in the hopes of including them in the publication. However, if submitted materials do not meet the stated requirements (including but not limited to scheduling, technical specifications, permissions and authorizations), the ICAA FL reserves the right to decline the firm’s or individual’s partipation in the publication, in which case the ICAA FL will refund the submission fee (less a processing fee of $300.)
Submission Instructions Please note: all material must be submitted electronically, unless otherwise specified. No physical materials will be accepted. Each firm or individual submitting work for consideration in Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean must complete the following for each submitted project:
- Online Entry Form (see submittal button below, this form can be saved in progress and returned to for completion)
- Profile Statement A brief statement (approximately 100 -150 words) describing the firm or individual responsible for the project, including information such as year founded, names of principals, history, specific focus or mission, etc.
- Project Presentation A PDF document of no more than 20 pages that both documents and showcases the submitted project. Submissions should be thoughtfully crafted to fully describe and convey the nature, scope, details and highlights of the project and should include:
• Project title and location;
• Project description of approximately 250 – 500 words describing the theoretical and conceptual content of the project; the project’s context and goals; any specific issues or features related to site, materials, construction methods, etc; any other information necessary to briefly convey the significance and scope of the project;
• Visual material that fully represents the project. This visual material can include photographs, drawings, site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, and details.PDFs of Project Presentations should be named as follows: [name of firm or individual]_[project name]_[presentation] - High-resolution files of all visual material (photographs, drawings, diagrams, etc.) included in the Project Presentation. Visual material should be submitted and named according to these guidelines and must be accompanied by relevant release forms (see Guidelines for Submitting Visual Materials.)

Guidelines for Submitting Visual Materials All visual materials included in the Project Presentation (photographs, drawings, diagrams, etc) must also be uploaded as high-resolution files (.jpeg or .tiff) as part of the project submission along with the required photo release forms.
The names of these image files must must include the following components, separated by underscores, and in the following order:
- abbreviation for the firm’s or individual’s name (to be determined by the submitting firm or individual — e.g. initials);
- title of project;
- image number (sequential order);
- last name of photographer (where applicable.)

Firm: James Cooper Architecture Project Title: Gatehouse Image number: 1 Photographer: Sarah Morris Filename: jca_gatehouse_1_sarah_morris All submissions must be accompanied by photo release forms granting the ICAA FL permission to use the submitted material in the publication and for promotional purposes (website, print, digital media, etc). The release form for must also include complete credit information for the submitted material. Please download this photo release form, have photographer complete, sign, and upload with submission.
Fees Participating firms and individuals must submit a fee of $3,000. Fees must be paid at the time materials are submitted and before the deadline of June 30, 2021. This is a single fee that corresponds to participating firms or individuals; firms or individuals can submit up to three separate projects for consideration in Contemporary Classical: Architecture, Urbanism and Craft in Florida and the Greater Caribbean, as long as each project meets the stated requirements (see Eligibility).
