Dear ICAA Florida Chapter Members, and ICAA Community,
We mourn the loss of Teófilo Victoria, a beacon of wisdom, creativity, and dedication within the ICAA Florida chapter. Teófilo passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, leaving behind a legacy that will inform the path of classical architecture and architectural education for years to come.
A beloved member of the ICAA Florida board and a revered professor at the University of Miami, Teófilo’s life was a testament to his passion for architecture. Educated at Columbia, he dedicated his career not only to practicing architecture with exceptional skill and sensitivity but also to molding generations of architects. His teachings and projects, imbued in his students a profound understanding of the symbiotic relationship between architecture, climate, and the human experience.
Teófilo, along with his wife and partner, Maria de la Guardia, was the recipient of numerous Addison Mizner Awards, a recognition of their significant contributions to classical architecture. Their work, celebrated for capturing the essence of place and tradition, has garnered numerous accolades, reflecting their commitment to excellence and the beauty of classical design.
Teófilo’s professional and academic achievements are rivaled only by his character. He embodied the best of our organization and was in constant pursuit of excellence. He made time for everyone, engaging and encouraging with warmth and sincerity. His approach to life and architecture was one of authenticity.
As we look to honor him, we will carry forward his extraordinary legacy with the intention and dedication that he showed us all.
