The Florida Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art is pleased to announce our 12th Annual Addison Mizner Award Design Competition for Excellence in Classical and Traditional Architecture. The awards program is intended to celebrate individuals and design firms in Florida and the Grand Caribbean who excel in the advancement and promotion of the ideals of classicism and traditional design in architecture, urbanism and the allied arts. The awards are named for Addison Mizner, the architect whose civic and domestic works defined the standards of excellence in composition and craftsmanship for classical and traditional design in the early years of urban development in Florida. Addison Mizner’s introduction of the Spanish Colonial and Mediterranean style left an indelible mark on the architecture and urban cultural history of Florida and, to this day, delights those who visit his buildings and urban places.

Scenes from our first annual ICAA Florida Board Retreat.
Graciously hosted by ICAA FL Board Member Anne Fairfax, and Richard Sammons, in their home, Bois Doré, built in 1927 by renowned New York architect Charles A. Platt. Lucky us.
Breakfast together, walking tours led by Anne, a wonderful dinner home, a wonderful dinner out at Vieste. Great conversations and deeper connections made. All will help our Chapter grow with our core mission guiding us.
New York Yacht Club, Rosecliff, The Elms, Isaac Bell House, and more.

Join the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, Florida Chapter for a weekend of walking tours and lectures exploring the urbanism and architecture of two New Urbanist communities in the Orlando area. Celebration, a new greenfield community planned on 5000-acres by Jaquelin Robertson and Robert Stern, includes a Town Center containing numerous buildings designed by notable architects & Baldwin Park was redeveloped on 1,100 acres of a former military base, infilling and reconnecting to the fabric of surrounding neighborhoods. These two walking tours will explore the mixed-use centers and several neighborhoods in each community. Neighborhoods in both communities consist of custom homes nestled alongside production homes and multi-family. Fundamental design principles were established with Architectural Pattern Books and guidelines.
The lectures will be held following a Cocktail Reception on Friday evening at the Looney Ricks Kiss offices in Downtown Orlando, and will cover the history, planning, and design of Celebration, including how it has influenced urbanism and architecture in Baldwin Park and the region.
The tours and lectures will be led by Geoffrey Mouen and Mark Jones, both who have served as The Town Architects of Celebration since 1998.

The Giralda Tower from Sevilla to Coral Gables!
“To those familiar with the Spanish town of Sevilla, the 12-foot weathervane above downtown Coral Gables is an unmistakable homage to the historic Spanish city long known as a center for trade, literature, architecture and of course, the flamenco. Atop the high-rise Alhambra Towers office building, the female figure carrying a shaft of wheat, a helmet and a Christian cross is a replica of the bronze weathervane that has dominated the sky of Seville for more than four centuries. Still today, the Giraldillo, or Spinner, crowns the Giralda, the belltower of the Gothic Cathedral of Sevilla. Built in 2002, Alhambra Towers is the latest in a series of South Florida tributes to one of Spain’s grandest cities. In the early 1920s, four towers were modeled after the Giralda. Two of them would later be torn down. The two that survived are national landmarks, the Biltmore Tower and the Freedom Tower.” -Miami Herald
