The ICAA FL Chapter is delighted to offer this unique opportunity to shed light on collaborations within our own membership, many of which are past Addison Mizner Award Recipients, as we announce our 13th Annual Addison Mizner Award Call for Entries.
Moderator Harriet Mays Powell will discuss with our lecture panel, who has a history of design collaboration, the creative process across the professions of architecture, interior design, and landscape. They will highlight their Addison Mizner Award winning projects and others, and talk about their collaborations over the years through engaging conversation and imagery.
Panel
Richard Sammons has a rich background in traditional period design and is an internationally recognized expert in the field of architectural proportion, having taught at The Prince of Wales’ Institute of Architecture in London, Pratt Institute in New York and The University of Notre Dame in Rome.
Betsy Shiverick founded Betsy Shiverick Interiors in 2003 after an exciting 21-year career on Wall Street as a currency trader. Upon retiring, she enrolled in the New York School of Interior Design and immediately began her new venture. Although projects were initially hard to come by as a newcomer, she was fortunate to have her own homes to design, redesign, and experiment with. With an insatiable passion for creating simple, beautiful, and comfortable spaces—much to her husband’s chagrin—Betsy embraced her new path. While their four children have grown and left the house, the family’s dogs and cats still roam freely, something she wouldn’t have any other way.
Jorge Sanchez
Jorge Sánchez’s interest in plants, architecture, and history has led him to landscape design. Jorge is the principal-in-charge at SMI Landscape Architecture. He maintains a philosophy which incorporates a “botanical garden” approach fused with the historic and classical formal garden design framework, creating exotic and thoughtful design solutions. In addition to creating beautiful, usable spaces, Jorge focuses on the preservation and restoration of old landscapes. Several of his designs have been published and continue to be published in many national magazines, as well as in his books, “The Civilized Jungle” which received the Arthur Ross award from the ICAA, “The Making of Three Gardens.”, and “The Private Gardens of SMI” Jorge has dedicated many years to zoning and architectural boards for the Town of Palm Beach. Recently he received the Thomas N. Armstrong III Award in Landscape Design from the New York School of Interior Design. He is currently a Director of the Garden Conservancy and The New York Botanical Garden Horticulture Committee.
