A Day of Learning with Thomas Riley Artisan’s Guild
For this in-depth tour, Owner & CEO Matt Riley will guide you through the entire process of bringing architectural millwork to life – from raw material to finished work – highlighting the standards, techniques, and decision-making that define their our approach to classical craftsmanship and modern production methods, in order to achieve a truly monumental result. The behind-the-scenes experience will include interaction with highly-skilled craftsmen & women, as well as, in-depth educational segments. Topics will include the properties of lumber and veneer, covering species characteristics, stability, and material movement, along with lumber selection and milling, where raw stock is evaluated and prepared for precision work. The program will also highlight architectural carving, examining ornament, proportion, and the role of hand craftsmanship in classical architectural expression. And finally, a look at specialty processes for fine architectural finishes.
The tour will conclude with lunch and social time in Thomas Riley Artisans’ Guild’s “client experience center”, with more time for Q&A.
