Come learn more about the Y&EP groups and meet the members at their second event: West Palm Beach Walking Tour
This course provides architects, designers, craftsmen, and anyone who enjoys learning with a foundation on the history of West Palm Beach with a unique perspective of understanding how the architectural details and elements in buildings enhance the character and community of a place. This historical walking tour of West Palm Beach will begin with architect and historian, Rick Gonzalez, at the old 1916 Courthouse. Participants will proceed on a walk-through time understanding how the city has developed into what it is today. Participants will learn about the important moments in West Palm Beach history, as well as the unique character of the historic buildings that shaped the city’s future.
Through the lens of an urban planner, participants will see how designing with people in mind, collaborating with a community, and studying ways to make a street accessible and inviting can change an urban landscape by bringing tourists and locals alike. Ending on Clematis Street, principal of Dover, Kohl and Partners, Victor Dover, will begin the urban design aspect of the tour, showing us how his firm made Clematis Street a more pedestrian friendly environment. Featuring wider sidewalks, additional shade trees, and the elimination of curbs. The new design made a welcoming and accessible street with more amenities for everyone to enjoy.
