Analytical Drawings Course

The Study of Precedents – Analytical Drawing – A Field Study of Historic Worth Avenue

5 credits towards the Certificate in Classical Architecture (Core Curriculum – Analytical Drawing) | 5 AIA CES Learning Units|Elective

Building upon the ICAA Measured Drawing curriculum, this course is intended to teach drawing methods for studying architectural and urban elements in the field. As a contrast to the extended time required to accomplish tighter measured drawings, analytical drawings are intended to be quick and wide reaching in scope. We will focus on pencil drawing only for this course.

The course will begin with a short Zoom lecture on Friday evening to provide background with historic and contemporary examples. The following afternoon will be Field Drawing. By the end of the course, participants will have created a series of drawings in their sketchbooks encompassing a wide range of architectural subjects and scales—including perspective, plan, section, and elevation drawings.

Virtual Introductory Session: Friday, November 17, 2023 – 6:00-7:00pm ETD, via Zoom
(Participants to attend a one hour zoom introduction on the Friday evening prior to the course Nov 17, 2023, 6:00-7:00pm ETD, zoom link to be emailed to participants)

Field Drawing Session: Saturday, November 18, 2023 – 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm in Situ on Worth Avenue
