A cupola and boldly striped exterior awnings were added in 1891. In 1902\, architect Frank Pierce Milburn added the classical style dome and first expansions to include the Governor’s office and Chambers of the House of Representatives\, Senate\, and Supreme Court.\n \nIn 1923\, at the peak of Florida’s building boom\, architect Henry J. Klutho nearly doubled the usable space while retaining its classic lines by adding two new wings and a marble interior. In 1936 and 1947\, large wings were added to the north and south ends of the building for the House of Representatives and the Senate.\n \nThreatened with demolition in the late 1970s when the new capitol was built\, the Historic Capitol was saved through citizens’ action and was restored to its 1902 appearance. The intensive project of historical and archaeological investigation makes this restoration of the Old Capitol (1978-1982) one of the most thoroughly documented restoration projects in the nation. Architectural highlights include the elaborate art glass dome\, red and white striped awnings\, and a representation of the Florida State Seal over the entry columns.\n \nICAA FL thanks all for participating in our #floridasummersketchtour Instagram Event.
