DESCRIPTION:Urbanism & Architecture – Celebration\nWalking Tours & Lecture Events – October 27 & 28\n  \nJoin the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art\, Florida Chapter for a weekend of walking tours and lectures exploring the urbanism and architecture of two New Urbanist communities in the Orlando area. Celebration\, a new greenfield community planned on 5000-acres by Jaquelin Robertson and Robert Stern\, includes a Town Center containing numerous buildings designed by notable architects & Baldwin Park was redeveloped on 1\,100 acres of a former military base\, infilling and reconnecting to the fabric of surrounding neighborhoods. These two walking tours will explore the mixed-use centers and several neighborhoods in each community. Neighborhoods in both communities consist of custom homes nestled alongside production homes and multi-family. The buildings featured on the tour will be used as case study examples of how fundamental design principles were established with a detailed Architectural Pattern Book. \nThe one-hour driving tour will follow\, led by Mark Jones & Geoffrey Mouen (carpooling will be coordinated for those not driving\, please specify if you need a ride on registration). From 1990 to 1999 Mr. Mouen worked for the world-renowned firm of Robert A.M. Stern Architect. Geoffrey served as Town Architect for Celebration\, and Golden Oak\, FL and Albany\, Bahamas a DPZ masterplan community. Geoffrey’s award-winning work has been featured in Period Homes\, New Old House\, Builder Magazine\, Home Magazine\, Traditional Building Magazine\, and New Urban News. Geoffrey served 3 years as an adjunct urban design professor at Rollins Collage. In 2006 Geoffrey worked to incorporate the ICA&A Florida Chapter Geoffrey has taught various course on classical and traditional architecture and town planning for the ICA&A\, AIBD\, and the CNU. Geoffrey led the Town Architects Forum at and the Seaside Institute and been a speaker at national conferences on traditional and classical design. He has won multiple Aurora awards\, including Best in State\, the Golden Award\, and Best in American Living (BALA) award in 2008 for the Tradewinds Show Home in Baldwin Park\, and the 2004 Palladio Awards for the Enders Park Community Center\, in Baldwin Park\, Florida. Geoffrey Mouen is well known for collaboration with other architects and designers achieving more sustainable traditional urbanism and traditional architecture. Geoffrey is a member of Strong Towns and a Board member to the Urban Guild. \n  \nMark Jones\nMark Jones joined LRK in 1987 and is a Principal specializing in residential architecture and design – from moderate-income housing to high-end custom residences. Mark has served as Town Architect for Celebration and Baldwin Park and his work includes numerous housing designs for Traditional Neighborhood Developments (TNDs) or TND-influenced projects. He is a frequent speaker at the International Builders’ Show\, Southeast Building Conference\, The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America\, The Seaside Institute\, and Pacific Coast Builders Conference.
